JO BRANDON

Hello Autumn.

Why Autumn is the perfect time to escape to the English Riviera

There’s something rather special about the English Riviera once summer begins to fade. The pace slows, the coastline feels a little more peaceful and those crisp autumn days bring a completely different character to the Bay. For us, it’s one of the loveliest times of year to visit.

Coastal walks & quieter days

Pull on a jacket and head outside. Autumn is made for exploring the coast, from gentle seafront strolls to longer stretches of the South West Coast Path, with woodland, rugged cliffs, beaches and spectacular coastal scenery along the way. English Riviera

And with the summer crowds behind us, there’s more opportunity to slow down. Wander along the beach, explore Paignton, Torquay and Brixham, stop somewhere for coffee or a cosy lunch and simply enjoy being beside the sea.

There’s still plenty going on

Autumn certainly doesn’t mean everything stops. The English Riviera calendar continues with seasonal events, markets, festivals, heritage and cultural events, as well as Halloween and October half-term activities. English Riviera

Half-term adventures for the family

If you’re thinking about an October half-term break, there’s plenty to keep younger visitors entertained too. The area combines beaches and outdoor adventures with family attractions and indoor options for those cooler or wetter days. The autumn programme also brings Halloween activities and special half-term experiences. English Riviera

And then come home to Cherwood

After a day exploring, there’s something lovely about returning to a comfortable, welcoming base by the coast.

At Cherwood Guesthouse in Paignton, you’re perfectly placed to enjoy the English Riviera at a gentler time of year — whether you’re planning a solo escape, a couple of days away together or a family half-term adventure.

Sea air. Autumn colours. A little change of scenery.

Sometimes that’s all you need.
